Something not working, or an idea for the app? Email colin@burn-murdoch.com. A screenshot and the date of the day in question help a lot.
Common questions
Why does Ubi Fui need “Always” location access?
To notice when you arrive somewhere and leave again while the app is closed. With “While Using” it can only record while it’s open on screen. Settings in the app shows the access it has; if it’s wrong, Ubi Fui offers to take you to the right place in iOS Settings.
Will it drain my battery?
Ubi Fui switches GPS off once you’ve settled at a stop and uses low-power location until you move, so most of the day it uses very little. Settings → GPS on, last 24 h shows exactly when GPS was running.
A stop wasn’t recorded. Why?
- Check you’re looking at the right day: swipe the Timeline or use the date at the top.
- A stop needs you to stay within the stay radius (75 m to start with) for the minimum stay (5 minutes). Both can be changed in Settings → Stop Detection, and apply to new stops.
- Make sure Track Location is on and location access is “Always”.
How does it know how I travelled?
With Detect How You Travel on (Settings → Trips) and Motion & Fitness access allowed, it uses your iPhone’s motion data to tell walking, running, cycling and vehicle legs apart. The phone can’t tell a car from a bus or train, so tap a trip to pick. Ubi Fui remembers your choice for the same journey next time.
How do I move to a new iPhone?
Turn on iCloud Backup (Settings → iCloud Backup), or use Export All Data to save a file. On the new iPhone, restore the backup or use Import Data. Importing can add to what’s there, skipping duplicates, or replace it all.
Where is my data?
On your iPhone, and in your own iCloud Drive if you turn on iCloud Backup. We never see it. See the privacy policy.
How do I delete everything?
Settings → Delete All Data. iCloud backups are removed separately, from your iPhone’s iCloud settings.
